What is a VPN Group?

Mason's VPN is used for secure remote access to restricted applications or systems. When you connect to Cisco AnyConnect VPN you need to specify a VPN Group. Each VPN Group is setup for specific access.

If you need more information about Cisco AnyConnect VPN go to vpn.gmu.edu.

What VPN Group Do I Belong To?

You must be on-campus to access the below information.

  1. On a web browser go the Mesa Tools webpage, tools.mesa.gmu.edu.
  2. Login with your Mason NetID and Patriot Pass Password.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for You are a member of the following Active Directory groups.
  4. Look through the list for any of the below.
    • XX-VPN = Departmental VPN
  5. If you have a group similar to the above then you have a departmental VPN and will use that when connecting.  If you DO NOT have any groups with the suffix “-VPN”, then you are in the GENERAL VPN.
